I’m related to Arthur Crittenden he worked on the lower levels of the St.Lo and was there when the kamikaze hit. He gave his life jacket to someone else because he knew he wouldn’t live.

  • Steve Huestis Stetson

My Grandfather was Gerald Stephen Huestis. He piloted an Avenger throughout the pacific campaign, and on the 10th of october in the Battle of Leyte Gulf when his carrier was hit by a kamikaze he proceeded to save the lives of 12 severely wounded crew members before jumping off the deck with no life preserver. He was picked up by a battleship i do believe. He passed in December 2007
